A Winged Paradise: Discover the Rare Birdlife of Capertee Valley

There is a specific kind of magic that happens at dawn at Myalla.

As the mist clings to the sandstone cliffs and the first light hits the 600-acre expanse of the Capertee Valley, the silence isn't actually silent, it’s a symphony.

For those who haven't yet heard, the Capertee Valley is internationally recognised as one of the top 50 birdwatching locations in the world.

Because our valley acts as a vital migratory corridor, Myalla serves as a private front-row seat to some of Australia’s rarest and most beautiful avian visitors.

The Crown Jewel: The Regent Honeyeater

The "Holy Grail" for birdwatchers in our region is the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater. With its striking black-and-yellow plumage, this bird is a symbol of the valley’s unique ecosystem.

While they are rare, the sprawling eucalyptus and woodland areas surrounding Myalla provide the exact habitat they need to thrive.

Seeing one in the wild is a "bucket list" moment for many of our guests.

A Kaleidoscope of Species

You don’t need to be an expert to appreciate the variety here. During a single afternoon on the Myalla veranda, it’s common to spot:

  • Turquoise Parrots: Shimmering in the grass near the homestead.

  • Wedge-tailed Eagles: Soaring majestically over the 360-degree valley lookouts.

  • Diamond Firetails & Peregrine Falcons: Often seen darting through the woodland fringes of the property.

Why Myalla is the Perfect "Twitcher" Base

We’ve designed Myalla to be more than just a place to sleep; it’s a place to observe.

  • 600 Acres of Private Access: You don’t need to jostle for space at public lookouts. Our guests have exclusive access to diverse habitats, from open paddocks to dense woodland.

  • Luxury After the Hike: After a morning spent with binoculars in hand, retreat to the homestead for a coffee in our designer kitchen or a glass of wine by the fire pit.

  • The Perfect Group Escape: With room for up to 5 couples, Myalla is the ideal base for birdwatching groups or "double-date" nature retreats.

Plan Your Visit This Autumn

Whether you are a seasoned photographer or someone just looking to reconnect with nature, the birdlife at Myalla offers a sense of peace you simply won't find in Sydney.

Pro Tip: If you book our Mid-Week Special (Stay 3, Get 1 FREE), you’ll have even more quiet mornings to catch the "morning chorus" in total seclusion.
